This therapy is used to reduce or eliminate vulvar pain, burning, itching, or discomfort. Oxalate is a salt found in foods and made by the body. When it is excreted as a sharp crystal in the urine, it may irritate sensitive tissues. In order to reduce the amount of urine oxalate, you should reduce the amount in your diet, and you should also take calcium citrate to bind the oxalate to prevent urinary excretion.
Low Oxalate Diet:
You should avoid the following foods: spinach, rhubarb, beets, nuts (including peanuts and soy), chocolate, tea, wheat bran, and strawberries.
Calcium Citrate Tablets
Calcium Citrate tablets are available over the counter at your pharmacy. Take two (2) tablets by mouth, three (3) times a day. Each tablet contains 200 mg Calcium and 950 mg Citrate.
This therapy must be continued for a minimum of two months to see if it will help.
