Over the past 10 years, obesity and Type-2 Diabetes are rapidly increasing, coinciding with a major increase in sugar sweetened drink consumption (soda, fruit drinks, power drinks). The calories in one 12-oz drink per day could lead to a 10 pound weight gain in a year! A study started in 1991 of 52,000 nurses of all ages has shown the following: - 1 or more sugar drinks a day showed significantly higher long term weight gain than 1 drink/week, or drinking non-sugar sweetened drinks. - Sugar drinks showed a Type-2 Diabetes risk factor twice as high as non-sugar drinks. - Fruit juice showed the same weight gain as sugar drinks, but without the Diabetes risk increase.
