A recently completed clinical survey has shown strong correlations that simple physical tests and info can point out the level of risk of osteoporosis. Also, in existing cases, these tests may point out if compression fractures exist in the spine (from compression caused by bones "settling"). Though a bone density test is the best test, there are some simple things to look for: - Leaning back against a flat wall, can you press the back of your head against that wall? - From the back, is the distance between the top of your pelvis to the closest rib more than the width of two fingers? - Has your height stayed within 2 inches of your tallest known height? - Is your body weight more than 112 lbs? The more "no's" you answered, the more you should suspect osteoporosis. Consult your physician! I To read more, check out the original story at http://jama.com. << back to main news
